Ocean Park
Opened in 1977, Ocean Park is one of Hong Kong's perennially popular attractions, providing an exciting mix of entertainment, education and conservation facilities. The 809,000 square metres (200-acre) park is situated on the southern side of Hong Kong Island, with rides, exhibits and facilities on both sides of the mountain. A cable car system links the lowland and headland sections, offering spectacular views en route.
New and fun-filled entertainment facilities are introduced from time to time. Over the past few years, new rides and exhibits such as Pacific Pier (2001); the Abyss Turbo Drop (2001); the Mine Train (2000); The Hong Kong Jockey Club Giant Panda Habitat (1999); Amazing Amazon (1997); the Flying Swing (1997) and the Film Fantasia Simulator Ride (1996) have entertained thousands of visitors.
Ocean Park never fails to impress. The outdoor escalator system is the second largest in the world and the cable-car ride to the headland provides unparalleled panoramic views of the south side of Hong Kong Island's Riviera-like coastline and some of the 260 outlying islands of Hong Kong.
Other highlights include the two giant pandas, An An and Jia Jia; Pacific Pier, Dinosaurs - Now and Then; Amazing Amazon; and the Atoll Reef, the world's largest reef aquarium. A shark aquarium has a 11.5-metre-long underwater viewing tunnel. Dolphins and sea lions perform at Ocean Theatre.
The 72-metre-tall Ocean Park Tower gives visitors a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape. You can also absorb an upside-down view of the South China Sea from the park's massive Dragon roller coaster. There’s also the Abyss Turbo Drop and the Mine Train roller coaster with twists and turns for 678 metres Turbo Drop. Take your time to experience the magic of Ocean Park. Admire the splendid flora and fauna in the aviary and the Butterfly House. Let the children go wild at Kids' World, where an array of games, shows and rides will captivate them with hours of fun.
Everyone will enjoy Whiskers' Wild Ride, an exciting simulated tour of Ocean Park by land, sea and air. You won't believe it until you see it and experience the thrill yourself!
Ocean Park works to promote and support animal conservation in Hong Kong and throughout the Asia region. It has, in co-operation with other conservation organisations, launched various conservation programmes for a number of endangered species, including whales and dolphins. In addition, it has successfully bred rare species of birds, sharks and butterflies.
