Our Happy Weekend in Detian
Author: Lina Huang Date: April 16th 2007 We arranged our weekend tour to Detian in the mid of April. We were really expected the short spring holiday for we would have
the chance to watch the multinational waterfall which belongs to China and Vietnam. It lies in a subtropical area along the Sino-Vietnamese border, and is the second largest transnational waterfall in the world, second only to the Niagara Falls on the US-Canadian border. Billy, our boss drove his own car and took four of us including himself. We started the tour on Sat. and spent that night in my hometown where is forty minutes by driving from Nanning the capital city of Guangxi Autonomous Region. My hometown is a small Zhuang minority village. We tasted the special food of Lemon Duck, Fresh Fish Slip and Colorful Sticky-rice as dinner. We enjoyed the starriness after dinner on the balcony of my house.
After said goodbye with my parents the next day morning, we continued driving to Detian. It took us 6 hrs on road. We stopped to visit the Heishui River (BlackWater River). By the river, there were a number o
f trees and odd-shaped pinnacles, whose inverted reflection in the river's blue water is the color black, hence the name of the river. With pinnacles, groves of bamboo and longan trees, and farmers' houses, this section of the river looks like an elegant Chinese ink and wash painting throughout the seasons.
We drove along the Guichun boundary river and arrived in Detian in the late afternoon. That's a wise decision for us to book the hotel inside the scenery spot, we could see theGuichun boundary river from window, watch the charming waterfall from the hotel and hear the sound of waterfall everywhere. Regardless of the tire, we walked to the NO. 53 mere stone after a short refresh. That's a multinational custom picture there. On the side of China, the people sold the Chinese souvenirs on theirstalls and on the other side of Vietnam, the people sold the Vietnamese souvenirs of dried fruit, cigarette, perfume. They spoke fluent Chinese and said "hello" to every tourist.
We walked down to the front of Waterfall, it was so amazing and unique. Water rushes down over 60 metres into the pools below, where is a great place for swimming. The clear water drops slowly, making us feel even-tempered and good-humored. Bamboo rafts can also be hired and can take you through waterway into Vietnam . We didn't take the bamboo raft but walked to the small island and had a break.We had a walk after dinner and found the fireflies flow around us. The Detian Waterfall appears to be a sculpture made by nature.After a nice night in the resort, we drove back to Guilin!
We will be back in other seasons to enjoy the different sceneries......
