Bicycle Ride to Mt. Yao
Author: Lina Huang Date:April 17th 2007Mt. Yao, locating in the east of Guilin is the highest mountain in the city. It gained the name from the Yao Emperor Temple which was built on the top of the mountain in Tang dynasty. It is famous for its natural beauty and attracts
lots of visitors from all around the world every year.
Today, April 17th 2007, most people from our office did an exiting cycling trip to the beautiful mountain. It is 10 kilometers from downtown. During the first part of the journey when we were still in the downtown, we rode leisurely talking,joking, and laughing, as the road is quite comfortable.
On the way, we paid a visit to a tea-planting garden when we were getting near to the mountain. The mistress there showed us around the garden, told us tea culture and tea making process. We also enjoyed a tea presentation called "Gongfu Tea". "Gongfu" in Chinese means skillful and "Gongfu" Tea Presentation refers to a method of preparing tea with a Chinese Miniature Tea Set that enhances the enjoyment of the
tea experience.
After we say good bye to the mistress, we were getting back to cycling again. However the more we getting closer to the mountain, more narrow and steeper becomes the road. We were riding the bicycle climbing the endless slopes in front of us which are getting steeper and longer. Then the voice of jacking and laughing disappeared.
There is a long and steep slope on the way to the parking spot. It is really hard for us. Every one of us except Steward climbed up without getting off the bike. The rest of us got off the bike and walked towards the spot with the bike.
We took the cable car to the top of the mountain after a short break. I almost lost myself when I was on the top of the mountain. It had very beautiful bird's eye views. There are different views in different seasons. If we came
two weeks earlier, we could enjoy the colorful azaleas. In summer, the pine and bamboo compete with each other for greenness. In autumn, the red maple with the falling leaves make the hill seems a girl wears the red skirt. In winter, the snow flake is transparent as the pure crystal.
Later, we took the toboggan down from the middle way. It is 100m long with 18 turns sliding down from the top. I chose to be the one who departed first, Billy and Cici always tried their best to catch me, how fast I drove, how fast they did, I just enjoyed the excitement of toboggan driving and forgot to watch the scenery on sides. Laughter left behind us…
We lost ourselves in the sights, smells, sound and the adventure arrangement…
