Bruno's Happy Hours in Ocean Park, Hong Kong

Author: Billy Zeng          Date: July 1, 2007

Last week, I took Bruno, 5-year old son, and my wife Yun, had a magnificent trip to Hong Kong, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

The most exciting trip for Bruno was the day at Ocean Park, the ride, the aquarium, the dolphin show and Panda!

Panda
Two lovely Panda, LeLe and YingYing show up eventually after so many days's waiting! Bruno had asked his Dad to read all the stories of these lovely Panda couple on their blog. Le Le, male, was born on August 8, 2005, and Ying Ying, female, was born on August 16 of the same year. The panda couple, both born at the Wolong Center in Sichuan province, came to Hong Kong on April 26, 2007. Since their arrival, they have been staying at the Giant Panda Habitat, joining the two other pandas, An An and Jia Jia, who have been living at Ocean Park since 1999.

The aquarium, the Dolphin and Seal Show
The aquarium is something worth to see! The view of thousands of fish swimming between coral flowers, made the ocean bed to be a fantasy land! We stayed hours there, feel like we were also part of these different type of fishes and animals, and wish that we can share the same passion for life with them foever.

The show of the Dolphin and Seal is the one people can not miss. Bruno raised his hand high, he wanted to be a volunteer to join in part of show together with dolpin! Never image dolph can jump so high, swim so fast. They were so cute, everyone wanted to touch their smooth skin...

Limit sign for children to take some "High Risk" ride everywhere. Bruno had trouble now, he was 120 cm tall, qualified to take every kind of ride in those themk parks and amusement parks in China. In China, children less than 110 cm in height are limited to take this kind of ride.

But there was Hong Kong, and the limit is 4 feet, the first time that we knew: 4 feet = 122 cm, and the Ocean Park staffs are really serious, they used a ruler in every sign-in point for ride! Even with parents' accompaince, we were not allowed to take many rides. Bruno felt it was unfair to him, we had to explain to him again and again: 'This is Hong Kong", well, they had different law system than mainland China.

how to go to Ocean ParkHow to get there
Convient public transfer systems are available in Hong Kong, and we had not seen trafic jam during our stay. Private car must have been limited to get license, and it would be quite costy to own a car in Hong Kong.

Take the Metro to Jingzhong Station, follow the sign to Ocean Park and then you will see the Bus Stop Sign as shown on the left, No. 629 rides for 20 minute and stops at both two entrances of Ocean Park.

After a full day walking, we were back to downtown in the late afternoon, took the famous local ferry to enjoy the light show at Victoria Bay.
